I am excited and nervous, but I will have God's word in front of me so I will be OK.
We are still in Pensacola and in less than an hour I will be back in this pulpit speaking to a group of people many of which have been preaching longer than I have been alive.

The school puts the names of all of the graduates on the wall outside of the offices.
It's nice to know my name is here, but my favorite place my name is written is in Heaven. Where is your name written? One of my favorite parts about visiting Pensacola is that I get to visit Leonard Street as well. I was blessed to work with them during the summers I was at Freed-Hardeman and then spend two years with them while I was at the Northwest Florida School of Biblical Studies. These are some of the kids who were in middle school when I was first with them. They are all in college or have graduated from college now except for a couple of them who were actually too young to officially be in the youth group when I was there. There are quite a few more kids as well who weren't there. Some were working, others have moved away and others have began worshipping somewhere else. I am really getting old! I still love these kids though and am thankful every time I get to see them. We don't have a Moes near us anymore so where do we go for lunch today? Moes of course! Welcome to Moes!
It is Valentine's Day, or Singles Awareness Day as so many like to call it. I am thankful that I have a wonderful wife and I don't have to wonder any more if I will have "a valentine." We have been on a roller coaster ride ever since we got married. Someday, ask one of us to tell you our story. You will need a few minutes but you will hear a story of two people with a whole lot of love. Here are some of the highlights.
For the rest of the story, you will have to ask. I promise that it is a good one. We are not perfect, but we have a lot of love. I would not change this story or how it is currently playing out for anything. I love my Valentine. As an added bonus, I put a clip of the song we walked down the aisle to after our wedding. I hope you enjoy it. : Then morning when I got to the office I noticed something I had not seen in a while. My shadow! For what seems like weeks, that big ball of fire in the sky has been hiding behind clouds. Today it made its appearance again. Most of our snow is gone now and hopefully we will begin to see warmth coming our way.
The thought of warmer weather gets me excited. I like to be warm. I like for my heart to be warmed by the kindness of others. Here are two things you can do to warm someone's heart today.
Be warm! I'm working in the office and caught myself staring out the window. I like having a window I can see out of and having my desk arranged so it is possible. Yesterday, this field was covered with snow. Today, there is little or no evidence that it was ever there. I wonder how often we are like that. As Christians, do we make an impact where we are? When you leave will someone know you were there because of the love you show? Enjoy your view today! It snowed today and I had a snowball fight. it can get Summer now. Now, it's time for a cup of coffee and a new book.
I am spending some time today, and every day this week, looking over my notes for the lectureship in Florida next week. I get nervous each time I preach but speaking in front of a group of preachers (most of them have been preaching for longer than I've been alive) is even scarier. Last time I was given this opportunity I spoke on Noah. This time my topic is modesty. Say a prayer for me as I make the final preparations on this lesson. Check out the website to the school if you would like to see more about it. www.nwfsbs.org |
