Let me begin by saying that if you work with a congregation as a minister in any capacity, stop reading this now and go buy this book.... I have read a few books that were designed to be helpful to preachers and this one is on the top of the list. Ten preachers contributed to this book and gave their thoughts on topics such as time, discouragement, stress, criticism, laziness, money and a few others.
I had my favorite chapters in this book, but there were none that I felt were not well put together or not useful to all ministers. Each one challenged me in many ways to look at my ministry and my life to see what I could be doing differently and better.
My overall favorite chapter was on the preacher and his core, written by Chris McCurley who was also the editor of the book. He challenges us to consider the core values of being a minister and to not let the many other hats we may wear overcome our main focus. He says, "Whatever hat the preacher wears, he must never forget that there is a difference between what he does and who he is...At his core, he is a christian."
I am not a book expert and many others have and will write many better reviews than what I have written here. This truly is a great book. If you are in need of a gift for a minister or if you are a minister looking for your next book to read, head on over to start2finishbooks.com and add this to your library. You will be excited that you did.
