By the time we officially started dating, the semester was almost over. The good news was that our homes were about 20 minutes apart in Middle Tennessee. The bad news was that I was going to spend my Summer in Pensacola, Florida.
We spent as much time together as we could. We dropped the "L-Bomb" only a few days after we started dating. This was crazy to me since I had often times thought people were crazy for throwing around love like it was some on sale Halloween candy. This was different though. I wasn't just saying it, I really meant it.
We kept it to ourselves for a little while because we didn't want people to think that we were crazy! I mean seriously, we had only known each other for a short time and were already talking about love!
School ended and we packed up our dorm rooms and went home. We were able to be together a little before I left for Florida. We had been dating for less than a month, I was in Florida for the summer, she was in Tennessee. Thankfully, her family made the switch to Verizon so we could talk on the phone without using our minutes!
Not only had we already dropped the "L-Bomb", we had already talked about marriage! I had known her for about two and a half months and we were talking about getting married! CRAZY!
Well, I did what every love struck college kid with a job and no bills does. I saved up for an engagement ring. I went to the mall and talked with Chris, a nice guy willing to sell me every piece of jewelry they had in the store. I found the perfect ring but of course it was absolutely at the top of my budget. I told Chris I was going to look around some more and see what I could find. For the next couple of weeks, every time I was at the mall Chris would spot me walking by. He would lure me into the store to look at the ring.
Eventually I couldn't take it any more. I had looked at many rings and none matched up to this one. It was perfect. I had never bought anything this expensive before and had planned to continue saving until I could afford it. Chris assured me I could buy it on credit and take it home right then! Are you serious?! Let's do it! I can't remember if I had to get the ring sized or not but as soon as I got it to my apartment, every time I talked to Kaycee on the phone I wore the ring on my pinky.
My parents came to visit once during the Summer and let Kaycee come along with them. While they were there I showed them the ring. Thankfully, they didn't think I was crazy for wanting to ask a girl to marry me whom I had only been dating for seemingly a few weeks.
I enjoyed the few days they were there and then they went back to Tennessee. It was sad and Kaycee cried the whole way home. The next time we were together, I would ask her to marry me.
To be continued...
